Summary

Interaction of Ultrasonic Waves With Composite Plates: The University of Cincinnati's Department of Aerospace Engineering continued cooperation with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base's NDE Branch, developing analytical and computational methods to model fibrous composites' mechanical behavior for NDE applications. Theoretical models for single unidirectional fiber-reinforced plates were extended to single and multilayered plates, including arbitrary azimuthal angles for single laminated plates, resulting in three-dimensional analysis. Reflection and transmission coefficients were derived, and experimental verification was conducted by Wright-Patterson's scientific group, advancing the state-of-the-art of NDE methods.
