Summary

Xylene is a synthetic chemical used as a solvent in various industries, including printing, rubber, and leather. It is a colorless, flammable liquid with a sweet odor and is one of the top 30 chemicals produced in the US. Xylene has been found in at least 840 hazardous waste sites and can enter the environment through industrial sources, automobile exhaust, and spills. Workers in certain industries, such as painting and biomedical laboratories, are at higher risk of exposure.
