Summary

Zinc deficiency in pecan trees causes "rosette" and "little leaf" symptoms, characterized by shortened internodes, narrow and small leaflets, and interveinal chlorosis. The deficiency is common in arid regions with alkaline and calcareous soils, where zinc availability is limited. Foliar zinc application is an effective management strategy, but requires frequent and repeated applications during the growing season to prevent deficiency symptoms. Zinc sulfate monohydrate is a commonly used source of zinc for foliar sprays, and can be applied with an air-blast sprayer at a rate of 100 gallons per acre.
