Niseko Hirafu area in Hokkaido, Japan, has experienced rapid resort development, particularly since the 2000s, with an increase in foreign tourists and investment. However, this development has also increased the risk of landslide disasters. The study analyzed the relationship between resort development and landslide disaster risk in the area using construction confirmation applications and national land numerical information. The results showed that development in the area expanded rapidly during the bubble economy period and again in the 2000s, with a focus on areas near the ski resort and along rivers. The study also found that the risk of landslide disasters is higher in areas with steeper slopes and closer to rivers, and that the development of larger-scale facilities has increased this risk. The study highlights the need for disaster risk reduction measures, including hazard maps and evacuation plans, to mitigate the impact of landslide disasters on tourists and local residents.
