This research project investigated the ethical, legal, and social issues surrounding stem cell medicine in Japan. The study consisted of three parts: (1) analyzing the challenges associated with the Act on the Safety of Regenerative Medicine, (2) conducting a survey on the public's and researchers' attitudes towards iPS cell technology, and (3) examining the ethical support structure for stem cell research in the US. The results showed that many clinics in Japan were providing unapproved cell therapies, and there was a lack of transparency and regulation in the industry. The survey found that 60% of the general public and 80% of researchers supported the creation of human-pig chimeras. The study also found that in the US, there was a clear separation of roles between office clerks and bioethics researchers in terms of ethical screening and consultation. The research highlights the need for improved regulation and transparency in the stem cell industry, as well as increased public engagement and education on the ethical issues surrounding stem cell research.
