Summary

Resource Allocation Systems (RAS) have been studied in Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) using Petri Nets, but these models are insufficient for software applications. The authors propose a new subclass of Petri Nets, called PC2R, to model RAS in software systems, which generalizes previous models and introduces a taxonomy of anomalies that can occur in software systems. The existing subclasses of Petri Nets used to study deadlock problems in FMS are not suitable for software applications, and the authors analyze why these models fail when applied to concurrent programming.
