Summary

ROS 2 Embedded WG meeting #4 was held on July 29th, 2019, with attendees from various companies. The meeting discussed preliminary results of a poll, SIG scope, organization of the SIG, performance analysis status update, and Micro-ROS update.

The poll results showed a wide variety of OSs, hardware, and IOs, with interests in resource use, real-time, tools, and execution. The SIG scope will include both Embedded Linux and MCUs, with a meeting schedule of every 4 weeks.

Nobleo presented their work on performance analysis, showing that the executor CPU usage is about ⅔ of the whole run time, with significant overhead in managing subscribers, publishers, and timers. Bosch is also working on related measurements and will make their tools available.

eProsima reported on their porting work for Micro-ROS, with the core ported to Dashing, and Bosch will make their executor and mode work available soon. The future of the Micro-ROS project was discussed due to the liquidation of Acutronic Link Robotics, but other partners will continue the work, with the most important foundational work already done.
