Summary

Continuous Deployment (CD) is a software development practice that enables organizations to deploy software to customers continuously, automatically, and reliably. A Continuous Deployment Pipeline (CDP) is the core concept to successfully implement CD practice, automatically transferring code changes from a repository to a production environment. However, CDP components are vulnerable to malicious attacks due to their exposure to the internet. This paper proposes the use of five security tactics to protect CDP from malicious attacks by addressing the security requirements of the three major components (repository, main server, and CI server) of the CDP. The primary focus of these security tactics is to ensure controlled access to these components. The effectiveness of these tactics is demonstrated by comparing two CDPs, one that incorporates the proposed tactics and another that does not. The results show that the security tactics enhance the security of the entire CDP.
