Summary

Image-text matching tasks have attracted attention in computer vision, focusing on measuring similarity between visual and textual contents. A novel position-focused attention network (PFAN) is proposed to investigate the relation between visual and textual views, integrating object position clues to enhance visual-text joint-embedding learning. The network splits images into blocks to infer region positions and uses an attention mechanism to model relations between image regions and blocks, generating valuable position features. Experiments on Flickr30K, MS-COCO, and a practical news dataset (Tencent-News) show the effectiveness of the proposed method, achieving state-of-the-art performance on all three datasets.
