Summary

Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) are semiconductor devices used as amplifiers and logic switches, consisting of three terminals: collector (C), base (B), and emitter (E). There are two types of BJTs: pnp and npn, each with a unique layer structure. The npn transistor has 2 n-type and 1 p-type layer, while the pnp transistor has 2 p-type and 1 n-type layer. BJTs have four types of bias due to the two pn junctions. The base is located in the middle and is thinner than the collector and emitter, with the emitter and collector made of the same semiconductor material, and the base made of a different type. The arrow on the emitter indicates the direction of the emitter current, with pnp having E→B and npn having B→E, and the currents are denoted as IC (collector current), IB (base current), and IE (emitter current).
