Summary

Boundary segments decompose a boundary into segments, used for boundaries with concavities, to reduce complexity and simplify description. Convex hull is the smallest convex set containing a set, with convex deficiency being the set difference. The procedure involves defining convex deficiency, marking transition points, and partitioning the boundary. Advantages include independence from size and orientation, while drawbacks include digitalization and noise affecting decomposition. Regional descriptors describe image regions, including simple descriptors (area, perimeter, compactness), texture, topological descriptors (number of holes, connected components), and moments of two-dimensional functions. Topological descriptors are insensitive to deformation, stretching, and rotation, providing additional features to characterize regions. Huffman coding is a procedure based on frequency of occurrence, using a lower number of bits to encode frequent data, with a bottom-up approach to construct a code book.
