Summary

Constraint-guided directed greybox fuzzing is proposed to address the limitations of directed greybox fuzzing, which can take a long time to expose targeted crashes due to its lack of consideration for ordered target sites and data conditions. The new approach, called constraint-guided directed greybox fuzzing (CDGF), aims to satisfy a sequence of constraints rather than merely reaching a set of target sites. A constraint consists of a target site and optionally data conditions, and CDGF prioritizes seeds that better satisfy these constraints in order. The approach is evaluated through a prototype system called CAFL, which outperforms the representative directed greybox fuzzing system AFLGo by 2.88x in reproducing 47 real-world crashes and better performs in proof-of-concept generation as the constraints become more explicit.
