Summary

Researchers developed a spelling error detection and correction system for Arabic, improving upon existing systems like Microsoft Word 2010, OpenOffice Ayaspell, and Google Docs. The system consists of three main components: a dictionary, an error model, and a language model. A semi-automatically developed dictionary of 9.3 million fully inflected Arabic words was created using a morphological transducer and a large corpus. The error model was improved by analyzing error types and creating an edit distance-based re-ranker. The language model was also improved by analyzing the level of noise in different data sources and selecting the optimal subset for training. Testing and evaluation experiments showed that the system significantly outperforms existing systems.
