Summary

Estimating power consumption in Intel Display IP is critical, but traditional RTL simulation methods are impractical for large frame and high-resolution tests. A new methodology using emulation instead of simulation achieves a 7-14x speedup in generating waveforms, enabling faster power optimization. The methodology involves identifying workloads, running them on an RTL model, and generating waveforms, which can be done using either simulation or emulation. Emulation reduces runtime and provides accurate power consumption data, allowing for prompt feedback to improve power design. A split run method further improves speedup, reducing runtime by 4x for 4-split runs and 8x for 8-split runs. Emulation also provides graphical plots of peak and average power, helping to identify and debug power hotspots.
