Summary

Researchers introduce the EventStatus corpus, a dataset of 4500 English and Spanish news articles about civil unrest events labeled as PAST, ON-GOING, or FUTURE, to study the temporal status of major societal events, and explore two approaches for event status classification: a feature-based SVM classifier and a convolutional neural network, both of which improve event status recognition over a state-of-the-art TempEval model.
