Summary

A JIT compiler without constant blinding can be abused, and Adobe mitigated this technique in Flash version 11.8. The document presents a new technique to leverage JIT-ed code as an info leaker, bypassing ASLR security mitigation. This technique involves spraying ROP info leak gadgets, which are small enough to avoid random NOP-like instructions. The attacker exploits a vulnerability, returns to the JIT NOP sled, and executes a ROP gadget that leaks an address to the heap spray. The gadget pops an address, pushes it, stores it, cleans up, and returns execution to the attacked program. This technique was likely used before, and a similar idea was mentioned by Chris Rolhf and Yan Ivnitskiy in a 2011 paper. The author provides an example using three assumptions and presents the ActionScript code and JIT-ed code that will leak the address to the heap spray.
