Summary

Researchers developed LowKey, a tool that protects social media users from facial recognition by leveraging adversarial attacks, making it available as a webtool. LowKey pre-processes user images, rendering them unusable for facial recognition purposes. The system is effective against commercial facial recognition APIs, including Amazon Rekognition and Microsoft Azure Face, reducing their accuracy to below 1%. LowKey addresses limitations of existing methods, such as Fawkes, by accounting for the entire image processing pipeline and using a black-box adversarial attack on facial recognition models.
