Researchers propose a machine speech chain mechanism, integrating speech recognition (ASR) and generation (TTS) using a closed-loop sequence-to-sequence architecture, allowing joint training on labeled and unlabeled data. The ASR model transcribes unlabeled speech, and TTS reconstructs the speech waveform based on the predicted text, while TTS generates speech waveform from text, and ASR reconstructs the original text transcription. Experiments on a single-speaker dataset show improved ASR and TTS performance, with the ASR model reducing character error rate by 4.6% and TTS decreasing mean squared error and improving end-of-speech prediction accuracy.
