Summary

HMM-based speech synthesis often results in over-smoothed parameter sequences, leading to degraded speech quality. To address this, a post-filtering method based on modulation spectrum (MS) analysis is proposed. The MS of generated parameter sequences is adjusted to be closer to that of natural speech, resulting in improved speech quality. Experimental evaluations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, with significant improvements in subjective speech quality scores. The proposed method can be applied to both HMM and HMM+GV (Global Variance) based speech synthesis systems, and can be used to improve the quality of synthesized speech.
