Summary

The Oberon System uses a network module called Net, which allows file transfer over a network. The system adheres to a conservative view of network architecture, where individual workstations are autonomous units that exchange data infrequently. The Net module is based on the network driver SCC and can be activated on any station connected in a network. The module provides commands for sending and receiving files, as well as sending messages. The protocol for file transfer is defined using EBNF and includes requests, acknowledgments, and data packets. The protocol also includes error handling and timing constraints. Station addressing is done using symbolic names, such as partner's initials, which are mapped to station numbers.
