It consists of an array of 16 identical, programmable tiles, each containing a compute processor, FPU, data cache, and communication routers. The static router controls the static networks, which are used for scalar operand transport between tiles, while the dynamic routers and networks handle other traffic. The design allows for single-cycle-per-hop latencies and can route two values in each direction per cycle, reducing bandwidth requirements. A sophisticated compiler partitions operations, places them on tiles, and specifies route instructions for operand transfer. The 16-tile prototype chip was built in a 0.15µm process and operates at 225 MHz.
