Summary

The Video Assistant Referee System (VARS) is proposed for automated soccer decision-making, leveraging multi-view video analysis to provide real-time feedback to referees and help them make informed decisions. VARS aims to automate the classification of fouls, determine the type of foul, and suggest appropriate punishments. A new dataset, SoccerNet-MVFouls, is introduced, comprising 3,901 actions with multi-view clips annotated by a professional referee. The system analyzes multiple camera streams, combining information to improve performance, and reaches good performance on video recognition tasks. The contributions include the release of the SoccerNet-MVFouls dataset, the proposal of VARS, and a study on using multiple views to influence VARS performance.
