Summary

The Post Correspondence Problem (PCP) is a computational problem that involves finding a sequence of pairs of words that match. The problem is defined as follows: given a finite sequence of pairs of words (x1, y1), (x2, y2), ..., (xk, yk), where xi, yi ∈ Σ+, is there a sequence i1, i2, ..., in ∈ {1, ..., k}, n ≥ 1, with xi1xi2...xin = yi1yi2...yin? The PCP is semi-decidable, meaning that there exists a semi-decision procedure that can determine if a given instance of the problem has a solution. However, the PCP is also undecidable, meaning that there cannot exist a decision procedure that can determine if a given instance of the problem has a solution or not. The undecidability of the PCP is proven by reducing the halting problem to the PCP.
