Summary

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) at Tufts Medical Center created a Tufts Research Data Warehouse (TRDW) to capture and consolidate observational health data from various clinical systems. The TRDW uses the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) common data model and is hosted on Azure cloud with containerized services managed via Terraform. The Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes use a combination of languages and produce a documented and maintainable codebase. The TRDW supports research requests, produces project-specific data extracts, and is expected to extend services to more users. The framework is scalable and integrates with various tools, including Databricks and OHDSI community tools. The TRDW is still in the proof-of-concept stage but has the potential to enable sophisticated statistical models and support translational engineering and clinical decision support tools.
