Summary

A minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer for noise reduction uses a local microphone array (LMA) and an external microphone (XM), requiring a vector of relative transfer functions (RTFs) from the desired speech signal to the microphones. The RTF vector has two parts: one for the LMA and one for the XM. The LMA's RTF vector can be assumed a priori, but the XM's RTF must be estimated as its position is unknown. This paper investigates estimating the XM's RTF using the LMA's a priori RTF vector, leading to an eigenvalue decomposition of a 2x2 matrix for a system with M LMA microphones and one XM. The resulting MVDR beamformer's performance is evaluated through simulations.
