Summary

The University of West Florida (UWF) Marine Robotics team submitted a technical design report for the 2020 RoboBoat competition. The team initially used an existing boat, "Argo II", but encountered issues and developed an autonomous ground vehicle (AGV) in a tank platform, "Hercules", to test and develop navigation and localization algorithms. A new boat design, "Nautilus", was developed with an aluminum deck that can be easily transferred between the ASV and AGV. The team used the Robot Operating System (ROS) for autonomous operation and developed a platform design approach to address issues with the "Argo II". The "Hercules" AGV saved time in testing and development and served as a public relations tool for the project. The team ultimately developed a new ASV, "Nautilus", with a 36-inch beam for greater stability.
