Summary

TwinsCoin is a cryptocurrency that uses both proof-of-work (PoW) and proof-of-stake (PoS) mechanisms to secure its blockchain, making it more robust than pure PoW-based systems like Bitcoin. Even if an adversary controls the majority of mining power, the system can still be secured by relying on honest stakeholders. The design is based on a provably secure hybrid blockchain by Duong et al. and has been enhanced with a new difficulty adjustment strategy and a light client for PoS cryptocurrencies. The implementation uses the Scorex framework and has been deployed on a testnet, with the source code publicly available.
