The 2023 DMPL Reading Challenge runs from Dec. 30, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2023, with no purchase necessary for entry or winning. Participants must create a Beanstack account via dmpl.org/reading-challenge to enter. By submitting an entry, participants allow their name and photo (if chosen as a winner) to be used for marketing by the Des Moines Public Library without additional compensation unless prohibited by law.

Des Moines Public Library employees and officers cannot participate. To qualify for the grand prize drawing on or after January 1, 2024, participants must read and log books from all 12 of the 18 categories/genres listed at dmpl.org/readingchallenge in 2023. One winner will receive a grand prize gift card, with two runners-up also receiving gift cards. Quarterly prizes are available for those who complete required reading and logging throughout the year.

Winners do not need to be present to win; they will be notified by email or phone and can pick up their prizes at a library of choice after each drawing. Only one quarterly prize per person is allowed, but winners remain eligible for year-end drawings. Prizes are non-transferable, with no cash substitutions unless the sponsor substitutes a similar prize of equal or greater value.

The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. Winners release the Sponsor and its representatives from liability regarding the prize. All activities comply with U.S., Iowa state, and local laws, with taxes on prizes being the winner's responsibility.
