Summary

When connecting to a site hook-up point, you will normally receive a 230V, single phase, 50Hz supply. Your equipment should be suitable for this type of supply, as indicated by a label. The Camping and Caravanning Club will not accept responsibility for any damage arising from the use of unsuitable or unsafe equipment.

The socket outlet at the hook-up point complies with British Standard BS EN 60309-2, and your connecting lead must have a matching plug and connector. The lead should be 25 metres in length, and the use of a second cable should be avoided. If a second cable is used, it must be fitted with a British Standard plug and connector, and the connection between the two cables should be raised off the ground.

Each hook-up post is individually protected against overload by a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) and a Residual Current Device (RCD). The MCB limits the amount of current that can be drawn from the mains, and most hook-ups have a maximum rating of 10 amps, although some have 16 amps. To avoid accidental operation of the breaker, the total wattage of equipment switched on at any one time should be less than 2300 watts (or 3680 for 16 amp sites).

The Club recommends that campers ensure their electrical installations are safe, and that they obtain a certificate by having their mains electricity installation inspected regularly. Campers should also be aware of the power ratings of their appliances and not exceed the maximum wattage or amps allowed.
