Everyone meets TWO hours prior to departure at OR Tambo Airport. NB: Should we be able to negotiate cheaper parking, we will inform everyone in advance. Also remember: Gerrie and his team will meet you at the airport in Windhoek, not at OR Tambo. You will have your air ticket and it is everyone’s responsibility to check in with Air Namibia or whatever airline they use. It is communicated to you early. Keep a pen at hand for completing documents at the airport and on the plane. Fill in the following in the Accommodation-section of the documentation: Windhoek Safari Hotel, Aviation Street, Windhoek and Erindi Private Game Reserve (Tel# 00264 8114 500 00)
After arriving in Windhoek, use patience when you get to customs - they take their time. Make sure your landing card is completed and keep that pen at hand for any additional documents. As soon as you are cleared by authorities and received your luggage, please proceed to the exit. Gerrie and his team will be waiting outside the airport building for you. Let the adventure begin!
From the airport, we do a quick sightseeing tour of Windhoek en-route to the hotel. Upon arrival we check in, freshen up and get ready to meet our fellow travel companions over a traditional German dinner. Joe’s Beer House is a legendary eatery and a must for anyone that visits the capital. A traditional German meal will be served.
After breakfast we hit the road and head North. If time allows it, we will fit in a bit more sightseeing in Windhoek before we head for Okahandja. Destination, the luxurious Erindi Nature Reserve! En-route to the reserve, we will obviously stop at legendary Piet’s Biltong to stock up on biltong, droéwors and beverages.
Our first of many adventures on this tour, is a game drive on the 70 000 hectare nature reserve. We will be accompanied by experienced guides that will point out the Big 5 to us. Check in at the lodge is only at 2pm and we will enjoy a delicious lunch while we wait for our rooms to be ready. Lunch will be served on Erindi’s deck, overlooking a water hole and playpen for elephants and other wildlife.
Our next activity: a late afternoon game drive, searching for lions and cheetahs. Late afternoon we will enjoy an ice cold gin & tonic surrounded by nature. An exceptional buffet dinner at Erindi’s restaurant overlooking the floodlit waterhole, and a cosy inside fire completes the first day at this beautiful lodge.
Erindi is so nice we spend another day here! After all, this is the highlight of a visit to Namibia and we do things in style. Today you have the opportunity to relax and observe the animals from your room. Or simply grab a book, and sit on the deck from where you can watch the game from the comfort of your deck chair. It is an incredible sight to watch hippos, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes and even lions at the waterhole and high tea later in the afternoon. We invite you once again to join us for a late afternoon game drive. Back at the lodge we light the fires and take out the red wine. Erindi is a truly special place that will stay in your memory forever!
After another scrumptious breakfast overlooking the water hole, we bid our farewell as we depart for the next incredible highlight. Etosha National Park is our next destination. The impressive salt pans leaves a lasting memory with many tourists. We hope to see plenty animals at this world renowned destination. The salt pans of Etosha create memories for many tourists that will always remain with them and we hope to see many animals there.
Our accommodation for the evening is at Gondwana’s Etosha safari camp, a few kilometres from the park entrance. We will try our utmost best to be in time for the afternoon game drive through Etosha. Rest assured though that if we cannot make it in time, we will be able to do it the next morning. Included with this tour is one free game drive in Etosha. Should you wish to do more, Gondwana lodge will gladly assist you to make a reservation with the park. Tonight we visit Gondwana’s very own and unique “township” where we will be served the most amazing dishes. We soak up the local atmosphere with guitar sounds around the campfire. Usually the extremely popular tourist destination of this safari lodge is booked well in advance, but we have the opportunity to enjoy this unique experience.
Bring your swimsuit, here is a lovely pool and a lovely social area. The lodge is our home for the next two blissful days! During the day you can relax with your book, go for a walk or just enjoy one of the many amenities that the lodge has to offer. The evenings are filled with laughter and fun over a braai, and next to a warm fire.
After a delicious breakfast, we depart Etosha and head south in the direction of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. We have a coffee stop and leg stretch along the way.
