Nick Hunt, author of "Walking the Woods and the Water", recounts his 193-day walk from the Hook of Holland to Istanbul, following in the footsteps of Patrick Leigh Fermor. Hunt's journey was inspired by Fermor's books "A Time of Gifts" and "Between the Woods and the Water", which he read at 18. With minimal planning, Hunt relied on couch surfing, camping, and the generosity of strangers to complete his trek. He faced challenges, particularly in the Carpathian Mountains, but also experienced moments of beauty and wonder. Since his walk, Hunt has moved to Bristol, worked in a bookshop on the Greek island of Santorini, and led a group of friends on a walk through the Accursed Mountains. He has also published a new book, "Where the Wild Winds Are", about his journeys following Europe's named winds, and is currently working on a book about London's feral green parakeets.
