Summary

Organizations should determine their intent and outcomes when planning for a team site and a communication site.

Team Site:
- A place for work groups or project teams to collaborate on project deliverables, plan events, track status, or exchange ideas.
- All members are content authors and can jointly create and edit content.
- Use for storing and collaborating on files, creating and managing lists, tracking project status, and organizing shared content.
- Typically has one or more Owners, with all Members having the same privileges.
- Customizable site look, navigation, web parts, and content.

Communication Site:
- Used for broadcasting messages, telling stories, sharing content, or showcasing services to a large audience.
- Usually has a small number of content authors and many content readers.
- Designed for broad communication, providing a way to share information, showcase services, and share news.
- Content should be easy to consume, with minimal time to access needed information.
- Pages should provide clear information on where the reader is, what they can do, and where they can go next.

Best Practices:
- Establish a schedule to review site content and ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Keep links and web parts updated.
- Use built-in usage data reports to track site usage and popular content.
- Periodically review site settings and make required changes.

Permissions:
- Managed by SharePoint groups, with default permission levels: Owners (full control), Members (edit), and Visitors (read).

Creation:
- Contact the Major Command Level Administrator (MCLA) at [email protected] to start the process.
- Consider the purpose: interactive exchange (Teams) or posting information (communication site).
