IDEM's Safety Rope Switches are designed for emergency stop applications on machines and conveyors, offering a solution where traditional mushroom head type Emergency Stop buttons are not feasible. These switches can initiate an emergency command from any point along the installed rope length and can be used in combination with dual channel safety monitoring controllers to achieve up to Category PLe/Cat.4 to ISO13849-1.

The switches operate by pre-tensioning the rope, which then activates the switch contacts. If the rope is pulled or broken, the safety contacts open, and the auxiliary contacts close. The switches are mechanically latched and require a reset button to be pressed to return to the operational condition.

Installation must be carried out by competent personnel, following a risk assessment and the provided instructions. The rope should be supported at intervals of 2.5m to 3m, and the switches should be mounted using M5 bolts with a tightening torque of 4Nm.

Maintenance involves weekly checks of the system's operation and tension, as well as bi-annual checks of screw terminal tightness and signs of moisture ingress. The switches are available in various types, including heavy-duty, standard-duty, and mini-duty, with different rope span options and fittings.

The switches meet various standards, including IEC 60947-5-1, ISO13850, and IEC 13849-1, and have approvals from cULus and TUV. They have an IP67 rating, and the enclosure is made of die-cast painted yellow material. The rope type is 4.0mm outside diameter steel inner-PVC sheath, and the mounting is done using 4 x M5 bolts.

Electrical specifications include double break type Zb safety contacts, silver contact material, and a utilization category of AC15. The operational rating is AC15 A300 240V 3A/120V 6A ac, and the thermal current is 10A. The rated insulation voltage is 500V, and the withstand voltage is 2500V.
