Version 4.20 Written By Kevin West (Epicdude) © Water for Fuel 2008. Rewire & Rewind your alternator like Water for Fuel, using a Delco Remy 10 SI alternator, which is the easiest to rewire and performs the best. The conversion involves several steps:
1. Get a Delco Remy 10SI alternator and remove the pulley/fan/rotor, inspecting the brushes and overall condition.
2. Remove the nuts, bolts, stator, bridge rectifier, voltage regulator, fuse, and brush housing, keeping the brush housing.
3. Replace the bridge rectifier and voltage regulator with a PCB and 3 Phase bridge rectifier, soldering in a male spade connector.
4. Connect red and black wires to the brushes, insulating the brush housing from the alternator housing using nylon washers, and test for dead shorts. Note: Clean brushes and rotor contacts are crucial for good contact and proper alternator function.
