RAE Systems by Honeywell PIDs detect various gases with different responses, using correction factors for quantification with a single calibration gas, typically isobutylene. Correction factors can be applied in three ways: manual multiplication, instrument memory/download, or inputting a "corrected" span gas concentration. The ionization energy of a compound must be lower than the lamp photons for detection. Examples demonstrate how to apply correction factors for different gases, such as butyl acetate and trichloroethylene. A formula is provided to convert ppm to mg/m3. Correction factors for mixtures are calculated from mole fractions and individual correction factors. Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) for mixtures are calculated similarly. Calibration characteristics, including flow configuration, pressure, temperature, and matrix, are discussed to ensure accurate PID response.
