Summary

Vygon's Surfcath is a surfactant injection catheter for treating preterm or full-term newborns with respiratory distress syndrome. It's a 20cm long, 6Fr diameter PEBA catheter with centimeter markings and a blunted black tip. The device is inserted orally or nasally, and surfactant is injected through a Luer syringe. Contraindications include imminent need for intubation, maxillo-facial or pulmonary malformations, and alternative causes for respiratory distress. Possible complications include tissue trauma, tachycardia, pneumothorax, infection, and incorrect surfactant injection. The device is for single use and should not be altered or reused.
