Summary

A flood forecasting model combining the Antecedent Precipitation Index (API) model with Nash's Instantaneous Unit Curve method is presented. The model parameters, n and k, are determined using mathematical relationships with topographic characteristics, obtained from DEM information using ArcGIS. The model is applied to the Tunxi basin in China, with simulation results compared to the Xinanjiang model, yielding a Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency of 0.80 for the combined model and 0.94 for the Xinanjiang model, indicating good performance. The combined model shows potential as a new approach for flood forecasting in similar basins.
