Summary

Grey water, a type of wastewater, contains hazardous pollutants that can harm the environment and human health if not managed properly. The membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology is a treatment method that can reduce the volume, parameter concentration, and toxicity of grey water. This study discusses the effectiveness of MBR in treating grey water, which comprises fat, feces, and detergents from kitchen and bathroom sinks. The MBR system produces effluents with low concentrations of biological oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total organic carbon (TOC), and is capable of degrading detergents and total suspended solids (TSS). The study found that the MBR technology is efficient in treating grey water, with the effluent meeting environmental quality criteria, although it does not undergo denitrification.
