Summary

Check the scene for safety, then the child or infant for responsiveness by tapping the shoulder and shouting "Are you OK?" or flicking the bottom of the foot for an infant. If unresponsive, call 9-1-1, roll the child face-up if necessary, and give 2 minutes of care before calling 9-1-1 if alone. For an unconscious child or infant, open the airway, check for breathing, and give 2 rescue breaths if not breathing. Quickly scan for severe bleeding and go to the appropriate panel for further care, such as CPR or unconscious choking. For conscious choking, give back blows and abdominal thrusts for children or back blows and chest thrusts for infants until the object is forced out or the child becomes unconscious.
