- Neglect: intentionally ignoring an elderly person's needs, including physical, emotional, and social needs, such as not providing enough food, medication, or healthcare.
- Sexual abuse: forcing an elderly person to witness or participate in sexual activities.
- Financial exploitation: stealing an elderly person's money or property, including forging checks, taking retirement or social security benefits, or using their credit cards and bank accounts without permission.

Warning signs of abuse:
- Self-neglect: failing to care for one's own basic needs, such as personal hygiene, appropriate clothing, eating, or managing medical conditions.
- Withdrawal from activities, poor hygiene, sleep disturbances, weight loss, depression, or agitation.
- Unexplained injuries, such as bruises, burns, or cuts.
- Lack of medical equipment or unmet financial needs despite sufficient financial resources.
- Dangerous or unsanitary living conditions.
