Summary

Researchers from Nara Institute of Science and Technology and Honda Research Institute Japan Co., Ltd. created the first audio-visual emotion database in Japanese, featuring 14 native speakers and 100 minutes of annotated material. The database includes monologues and situated dialogues to provide a range of emotional expressions, from prominent and isolated to subtle and contextualized. Preliminary emotion recognition experiments achieved an accuracy of 61.42% for five classes of emotion. The database aims to support the development of emotion-sensitive systems, particularly in Japan, where there is a growing need for assistive technology to address issues like depression and aging population.
