Summary

Research on copper(II) complexes with 2,2'-bipyridine ligand and trifluoroacetate anion aimed to determine the synthesis method, formula, and characteristics of the complexes, including magnetic properties, conductivity, and spectroscopic analysis. The complex was synthesized by mixing Cu(NO3)2.3H2O with 2,2'-bipyridine in a 1:3 mole ratio, followed by addition of trifluoroacetate anion. ICP measurement showed 7.35% copper content, and conductivity measurement suggested a 2:1 cation-to-anion ratio, indicating a possible formula of [Cu(bipy)3](CF3COO)2.5H2O. TGA analysis revealed decomposition of water, trifluoroacetate, and 2,2'-bipyridine at different temperatures. The complex was found to be paramagnetic with a magnetic moment of 1.85-1.96 BM. UV-Vis and infrared spectroscopy showed characteristic absorption bands, and XRD diffractogram suggested a monoclinic crystal system with space group C2/c.
