Summary

Tangential structures on toric manifolds and connected sums of polytopes are studied. Toric manifolds are defined as manifolds admitting a smooth action of the torus, with a quotient space that is a simple convex polytope. The authors classify complex structures on the stable tangent bundle of a toric manifold in terms of omniorientations and develop consequences for complex cobordism theory. They prove that every complex cobordism class contains a connected toric manifold with a stably complex structure induced by an omniorientation. The authors also develop the notion of connected sum for simple polytopes and study the integral homology and cohomology of toric manifolds, extending previous computations to complex cobordism theory.
