Summary

COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES issued a report on the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th European Development Funds for 2004. The European Development Fund (EDF) supports development programs in sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, as well as 20 Overseas Countries and Territories. In 2004, the Commission made global commitments of €2,648m and paid out €2,464m, with new individual commitments of €3,038m. The report highlights achievements in reducing poverty, promoting economic and social development, and improving operational performance. Key areas of focus included regional integration, infrastructure, general budget support, and sectoral policy support programs. The Commission also made efficiency gains by devolving program responsibility to its offices in ACP countries.
