Summary

A taxonomic study of three South-American species of Lessonia (Laminariales, Phaeophyceae) was conducted, including a description of L. searlesiana sp. nov. and a new lectotypification of L. flavicans. The study revealed that L. vadosa Searles is a taxonomic synonym of L. flavicans, and the species previously known as L. flavicans is now named L. searlesiana. A new lectotype for L. flavicans was designated, and type material of taxa historically assigned to the genus Lessonia and preserved at PC is illustrated.
