Summary

Wind streaks, common aeolian features on planetary surfaces, are understudied on Earth despite being widely studied on Mars and Venus. This study aims to fill the knowledge gap by generating a global map of Earth wind streaks using high-resolution remotely sensed imagery, incorporating them into a geographic information system (GIS), and overlaying with wind data. Over 2,900 wind streaks were detected in desert regions, mostly formed on young geological surfaces near the equator, and categorized by planform and reflectance. The study provides a better definition of wind streaks' physical and geomorphic characteristics, shedding light on past and present climatic processes and atmospheric circulation on Earth.
