Summary

Wave-induced ripples development in mixed clay-sand substrates was studied in a large-scale flume experiment at the University of Hull. The experiment aimed to quantify near-bed turbulence and sediment transport interactions over rippled beds of clay-sand mixtures under oscillatory flow conditions. Results showed that the amount of cohesive materials in the substrate significantly influenced bedform evolution under regular surface waves, with higher percentages of cohesive clays delaying the appearance of initial ripples by around 30 minutes.
