Summary

The European Parliament is set to vote on the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, which has been provisionally applied since January 1, 2021. The agreement establishes trade on zero-tariff/quota terms, covers areas such as energy, transport, and fisheries, and provides for cooperation in law enforcement and judicial matters. It also includes level playing-field provisions to maintain standards in social, labor, and environmental areas, and a rebalancing mechanism to address significant divergences. The agreement allows for the exchange of data between parties, but without direct access to EU databases, and introduces a new surrender mechanism for those accused or convicted of crimes.
