Istraživanje medijskih sloboda u BiH 2019. pokazuje da građani BiH najviše vjeruju vjerskim institucijama, a zatim medijima, institucijama vlasti i međunarodnoj zajednici. Međutim, povjerenje prema medijima, nevladinom sektoru i međunarodnoj zajednici je u padu, dok je povjerenje prema vjerskim zajednicama, institucijama vlasti, političarima i političkim strankama u blagom porastu.

Građani BiH smatraju da sloboda medija u FBiH i RS-u nije ili je djelomično prisutna, a politička zavisnost je osnovna prepreka u radu medija. Političari i političke stranke imaju najveći uticaj na rad medija, a smatraju se glavnim kršiteljima novinarskih prava i medijskih sloboda.

Većina ispitanika smatra da je rad novinara u BiH politički motiviran i da teme o kojima izvještavaju nisu dobro odabrane. Smatraju da bi za unapređenje novinarskog rada trebali biti oštriji kriteriji za ulazak u novinarsku profesiju i unapređenje sistema obrazovanja novinara.

Gotovo većina ispitanika se informira putem televizije i interneta, a internet smatra važnim medijem za informisanje javnosti.
