Summary

A new method is proposed to estimate the contribution of geometrical optics in arbitrary linear stratified planar structures, based on the Bresler-Marcuvitz transversalization method and equivalent network modeling, which is useful for computing source contributions in Wiener-Hopf formulations of complex scattering problems. The method involves deducing generalized Wiener-Hopf equations and solving them using semianalytical factorization procedures, with a key point being the extraction of the source term related to geometrical-optics components. The approach uses Cartesian coordinates and considers stratification along the y direction, introducing transverse equations of the fields and using Fourier transforms to study the variation of the fields in x. Circuit models are introduced for arbitrary semi-infinite layers and multilayer slabs, with the transmission matrix of the slab defined in terms of the M matrix. The eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the matrix M are important in studying the solution of the equation, allowing the evaluation of functions of M such as exponentials.
